    Found it!

As expected, I was looking for something else and found the CD cases that we used to keep in the car. Got a short road trip coming up this weekend, maybe some of these will come in handy!

  2. [21:58 -- jg] on magnetic

There wasn’t much tape left, a week later. A few bits here and there. Traffic was still slow (for no good reason that I could see), so I snapped a couple of pictures. Don’t do that.

The central median of 85, maybe some tape at the edge of the pavement.
This is the best picture of the remaining magnetic tape.

Some of the bits glinted and fluttered. Most were the mute dull brown of one side or flat black of the other. A week on the side of the road is a pretty rough place for this delicate material.

They really effed this one up. I am going to write to them with a tone of absolute disgust!

  4. [11:13 -- jg @ Aaron] on bean hollow

This photo and the yet-to-be-posted next ones are from a couple years ago. It is one of my favorite beaches. I have a lot of favorite beaches.

Well, the camera pooped out after 15 minutes. I suspect it got too hot. The advice is to remove the internal battery and just run on the external power, and to put some shade over it. I might build a little cardboard house. Maybe reduce the image resolution? Experiments will continue until this is figured out. It’s a bummer because the sunset last night was brilliant, and there were quite a few fireworks that I was hoping to capture.

The important thing is that the audio worked, so I got all that.

I think you misheard or he misspoke. It’s Bentonia MS for the Bentonia Blues Festival. Skip James’ Hard Time Killing Floor Blues is the famous Bentonian(?) song. Modern Bentonia Blues: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PXEWNwvdFzY&list=RDPXEWNwvdFzY

This is a major bucket list item and he could easily spend a couple months at juke joints in the neighborhood. I want to go!

Angle of Repose is a great book. I read it years ago and will re-visit now. Thanks for making the connection. Now I need to walk the trail.

  8. [20:53 -- jg @ Tony] on quicksilver

Maybe I should read that. But I haven’t even finished one book this year, so that might be ambitious. Maybe I should skim the wikipedia article about that.

The mine is a major location in Wallace Stegner’s “Angle of Repose” — the first home that the newlywed main characters share was in the small settlement associated with the… continue on the post →

  10. [10:46 -- Tony] on grab bag vol. 7

The most fascinating thing to me about this post is that I’ve never heard any of these non-facts before reading this.

  11. [22:44 -- Jeff] on spilt

Opening the beef bag over the sink reminded me of the first time I was asked to reserve pasta water. I carefully put the colander over the saucepan and strained… continue on the post →

I actually prefer your narratives more than the grab-bags, but this one slapped. The Autoglyphs seem to live in a similar world to my brother’s work on pen plotting: https://www.patreon.com/c/j_cammarata_art/posts?vanity=j_cammarata_art His… continue on the post →

How about an amazing flute solo that you’ve never heard unless you’re a flautist.

That same milkweed plant has been decimated in 24 hours. There are still a lot of caterpillars on there.

Oh yeah, I don’t track anything and don’t plan to. It’s not the point. If you want to read it, that’s not really any of my business.
