    Well, the camera pooped out after 15 minutes. I suspect it got too hot. The advice is to remove the internal battery and just run on the external power, and to put some shade over it. I might build a little cardboard house. Maybe reduce the image resolution? Experiments will continue until this is figured out. It’s a bummer because the sunset last night was brilliant, and there were quite a few fireworks that I was hoping to capture.

    The important thing is that the audio worked, so I got all that.

    The mine is a major location in Wallace Stegner’s “Angle of Repose” — the first home that the newlywed main characters share was in the small settlement associated with the mine. I had never thought about it as a living place before reading that book; I could only picture it as the park that it is today. It’s not like the old mining ruins around Death Valley that readily lend themselves to the imagination. I hadn’t thought of anything in today’s Silicon Valley as a Wild West frontier mining town.
